Rietveld Rings Series| 2010 -2011

Copper wire, fabric, thread, twine, cardboard, paper and toilet paper.

In this series three mass manufactured costume rings were deconstructed. The costume rings are unoriginal and cliché in design. Even though the rings are made out of cheap materials it is set out to resemble gold and gemstones.

My aim with the Rietveld Ring Series were to  reveal how these mass manufactured rings are arbitrarily perceived as natural, timeless and universal. I wanted to make new objects that are open for interpretation from its viewer. The three rings were stripped from their function. Elements from their form were made in different sizes and different materials. This process yielded new objects which the viewer could decide for him or herself how to utilise these objects.
