Earring-brooch | 2008

Silver, pearls, steel wire and found object.

The starting point of Earring-Brooch was a velvet covered piece of cardboard, once used as packaging for a jewellery piece. I was fascinated with the beauty of the worn out object. I decided to make a jewellery piece out of it as well as a jewellery piece for it. The wearer can choose to wear the piece of velvet covered cardboard as a brooch with or with-out the earrings. The piece illustrates the contrast between wearing a piece of jewellery and the safe keeping of a piece of jewellery. When wearing the earrings as part of the brooch it accentuates the preciousness of the earrings. When wearing the brooch with-out the earrings it accentuates an object that is usually overlooked and left behind.

Pearl bag pendant | 2008

Silver, silk thread, pearls, moss agate and found object.

Similar to the Earring-brooch, this piece originated around found jewellery packaging. In this case it is a little bag used for the safe-keeping of pearls. Instead of making a pearl necklace to just go into the bag, I made the bag, the pendant of the pearl necklace.
